The Shang Dynasty was the first dynasty in ancient China. The different states of China fought each other for land until the Shang kings took control over northern China and set up large cities. The royal family lived in a walled palace with their advisers and diviners.
Peasant grew food and craftspeople made tools, weapons, clothing, ornaments and household goods. Bronze, silk, jade, clay and other materials were used by the craftspeople.	A vessel from the Shang Dynasty
Artisans used ceramic molds to make different pieces. They poured molten bronze into the mold and when the bronze cooled, they would brake the mold and remove the clay core.	A gong from the Shang Dynasty
