1-Contect Area-My lesson will be covering second grade science.

2-Topic-My lesson will be on discovering what a butterfly is and its specific classifications.

3-Goals-I want my student to come away with an understanding of what a butterfly is and how you can classify butterflies according to what they look like. Also I want my students to learn where butterflies live, what they eat, the difference between a butterfly and a moth, and also the most common types of butterflies in Massachusetts.

4-Objectives-My students will be able to recognize what a butterfly is.

My students will be able to know important facts about butterflies.

My students will be able to know the life cycle of a butterfly.

My students will be able to name body parts of the butterfly.

My students will be able to tell the difference between a butterfly and a moth.

My students will be able to know what butterflies are common in Massachusetts.

My students will be able to tell the difference amongst different classifications of butterflies.

5-Technology, materials and aids-There will probably be one computer that I will use to present everything to the students by means of a projector. If possible we may go to the library or a computer lab and each students will have his or her own individual computer (eighteen), but we will have to go back up to the classroom anyways to complete the lesson.

6-Procedures/methods

a-Overview- My lesson is going to begin with instruction about butterflies and what actually makes them butterflies.  I will use my website to assist me in this mainly by using it for visuals and guidance.  Each page on the website describes a different topic about butterflies that I wish to discuss, and therefore the website is very useful in my lesson plan.  Throughout the instruction I will be asking students different questions about butterflies that directly relates to the website and the information that is located on it.  Then I will tell the students to create and draw a butterfly of their own that contains characteristics that we discussed in the lesson.  It could be a made up butterfly or a real butterfly.  I will also tell them to label the parts of the butterfly to make sure they understood the lesson.  Also, I will tell them to look around outside at recess or at home for butterflies and see if they can recognize what type of butterfly it is.

b-Introduction- The lesson will begin with me lecturing about what a butterfly is in general.  I will use the home page of the website to help with the explanation.  The pictures and diagrams will enhance the lesson.  I will teach the parts of the butterfly and also quiz the students to make sure they understand which body part is which and also that they understand how the butterfly works as a whole.
